In FOEDEX we firmly believe you must experience Spain with all 5 senses. As such, we have created various activities to develop and apply your language skills and knowledge of our culture. Every week you will have the opportunity to participate in cultural immersions, which include museums, gardens, parks, excursions, culinary adventures and other activities.
Valencia, the city of museums
Valencia is a reference of Spanish culture. It has always been home to many famous artists such as Vicente Blasco Ibanez and Joaquin Sorolla. Proof of this artistic and literary impact is reflected in the many museums the city has to offer. During your stay we will visit outstanding museums and you will discover the hidden gems Valencia has tucked away.
Historic and Modern Valencia
From the times of “Valentia” founded by the Romans until the recent construction of the City of the Arts and Sciences by Santiago Calatrava, Valencia has evolved through many civilizations and cultures. Different guided tours will teach you about the history of the city and its important monuments from the Roman, Moorish and medieval eras into the 21st century.
Tapas Experience
Spain is internationally known for its Mediterranean cuisine and tapas. Your experience will include tasting traditional and famous Spanish foods in the form of tapas. Our night out for tapas will be held in a typical Spanish bar where you will be introduced to traditional flavors of Spanish cuisine.
Farm to Table (Paella day)
Valencia is well known in the gastronomic world for two reasons: It is the birthplace of Paella and is the most fertile region of Spain and much of Europe. During this experience you will visit a Valencian farm where you will learn the traditional ways of cultivating the land and cooking Paella. We will pick vegetables straight from the land to prepare the Paella using the oldest most traditional Valencian recipe. Lastly, we will end our day with a horse-drawn carriage ride to orange groves to collect oranges fresh from the branch (depending on the season).
Valencia Central Market
The Valencian Central Market is the largest fresh market in Europe and has almost 300 vendors. We will tour in and around the market to discover different flavors, smells, colors and textures this unique market has to offer.
Ceramic Workshop
Taking advantage of the fact Valencia is a ceramic capital, you will visit a small town famous for this traditional art. You will participate in a hands-on workshop where you to use your sense of touch to create what will certainly become your most personal souvenir.
Garden Tour
The Orange blossoms are, without doubt, a signature scent of Valencia. Even in the heart of the city, this aromatic smell surrounds you because of the numerous gardens located in Valencia. We will visit some of the most beautiful parks in the city where you can relax and enjoy the serenity.
Bike tour through Turia Riverbed Park
Just as New York has its central park, Valencia has its lush riverbed situated in the heart of the city extending from one end to the other. This immense garden is a central point for recreation where you will find open green spaces, sports complexes, public exercise equipment and small lakes where you can rent kayaks. You will enjoy your day traversing this enormous green space as we ride bikes from one end of the city to the other discovering everything it has to offer, including some of Valencia’s best kept secrets.
Flamenco Show
Flamenco is one of the most important cultural aspects in Spain. It is the art of movement and passion. At FOEDEX we want you to live this emotion while you attend a live show of this thousand-year-old art which is profoundly rooted in the soul of Spain.
